This is bubble opal from Utah. I was intrigued. I only got these two pieces since I’d never seen it finished. Then a couple of days later I saw some carved. WOW. We’ll see how this turns out.

We loved this color, but this material was really hard to cut and polish. Fortunately the mine in Peru is “mined out”, so I won’t have to decide whether to try it again or not. This stone is listed under Designer Cabochons, Whatever Else.
One of the fun parts of our work is when we get samples of new materials shipped to us. Here is a new find of either jasper or opal from Oregon. We’re making up a cab and we’ll be able to tell a lot about the material depending on how is works up. We’ll post…
