About Chrysoprase
Chrysoprase is a green colored chalcedony that has been prized as a gemstone since ancient times. The name comes from the greek word chrysos meaning “gold” and prason meaning “leek.”
Chrysoprase has been found in a number of locations around the world, but most of the best material comes from Australia. For decades, virtually all of this prized green chalcedony went to Asia, primarily China.
Thanks to the mines that Candala Pty Ltd. have opened in the Marborough area of eastern Australia, this marvelous, ancient gem is once again available worldwide. The Marborough region is famous for producing the highest quality chrysoprase, and we feel fortunate to be one of Candala’s distributors.
