Lapis Lazuli, gem of the ancients, has been mined in Northern Afghanistan pretty much throughout recorded history. This year in Quartzsite we scored a large chunk of rough. We're told it is from the Sari-i-Sang mine of the Kokcha Valley. The mining area is only reached by miles of treacherous gravel roads through mountain passes. The material we obtained was mined many years ago.
