While we wear many hats here at Rogue Gems, one of the most critical challenges is to create designs for our cabochon. It involves choosing only the very most interesting portions of the slabs and then selecting a shape that uses the selected portions of the slab to its greatest aesthetic advantage. One of the biggest challenges in this process is to end up with a shape that accents the best the stone has to offer but also a shape that is pleasing and useful to the jewelry designer. In the beginning we tending to do more free form shapes but we soon learned that more traditional shapes, i.e. what I refer to as shapes with a name, clearly have a prominent place in the scheme of things.
Here we show a big slice of first rate Exotica Jasper from Mexico. I would appreciate some input as to what shapes folks would like to see us cut from this one.
Thanks Kathleen. We’ll do some of those shapes from this slice.
