About Us

About Ev Tucker and Ken Brittain, owners of Rogue Gems LLC

Welcome to our website!

Our names are Ev Tucker and Ken Brittain, and we are the gemstone dealers behind Rogue Gems, LLC.

We are also rock hounds, jewelry makers, jewelry designers, stone cutters and faceters. We hunt stones, cut stones, and sell stones.

We love Oregon sunstone, agate, jasper, tourmaline, spinel, garnet, citrine, ametrine, variscite, turquoise and more.

In other words, we love color.

Ev is a gemologist. After receiving her B.A. from Stanford University, she decided to pursue her love of jewelry and enrolled in the in-residence program at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). After obtaining  her Graduate Gemologist degree, she joined the GIA staff, working first in the lab and then on the writing staff.

Ken is a third generation rockhound who is enjoying a second career after toiling as a trial lawyer for more than two decades. He received his B.S. in Economics and his law degree from the University of Oregon.

About Rogue Gems, LLC

We started our loose colored gemstone company, Rogue Gems, LLC, in 2005 while living in the Rogue River Valley of Southern Oregon. Although we have greatly expanded our product line over the years, we started with Oregon sunstone, and it is still one of our favorites. We’re delighted to see how the rest of the world is coming to understand what we’ve always known: Schiller is a GOOD thing.

We especially pride ourselves on our matched pairs.

We even have matched pairs of green sunstone.

Art Stones from the Earth

We kept the name “Rogue” when we moved to Portland because it characterized the direction we were taking in developing new products: working with novel, unusual, “rogue” materials. Today we continue to experiment with designs and styles using both new and traditional  materials.

The response has been overwhelmingly enthusiastic.

In fact, we believe that art stones from the earth will define jewelry for the forseeable future.
